Maxi-skirts - (I deeply wish...)
I wish I had long enough legs to carry off a skirt like this. I love this look... After seeing these pages in Elle a few months ago, I dutifully purchased a black (much cheaper) version of the skirt above from a second hand shop, desperately hoping it would fit.
After months of lurking in a drawer, I have finally given up any hope of wearing it. The Olsen twins look great in things like this but I am, sadly, not an Olsen twin. Besides all else, the skirt is a little too big for me around the waist, and so snakes down my hips to well and truly trail and get caught up under my shoes, therefore running the risk of being pulled down. (That would be embarrassing - particularly when trying to board/depart a commuter train.)
You can now find my version of the skirt on ebay for a very low starting price. I just want it to go to a good home.. in the meantime, I shall search for a more practical skirt length..
I can't wait to sport Maxi's this summer!
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to try wearing a maxiskirt this summer, too. So sorry to hear yours didn't fit you so well.
ReplyDeleteSo far I haven't had much look with them, either. I'm not tall enough for maxis, but I'll give them another try, though. Somewhere out there must be the perfect maxiskirt for both of us - we just need to believe in it (& find it asap) *lol*
ALAS! I feel your pain in terms of not quite the right length/fears of public de-skirting. I myself am decidedly NOT long-legged, so maxi skirts kind of make me look like a fairly squat, fluted column. Bad news, that.
ReplyDeleteI thrifted this amazing maxi skirt earlier this year and I can't wait to wear it on a nicer day. The only problem is I have to wear it low on my hips so it's long enough.. I'm too tall!
ReplyDeleteYours looks so adorable! So sorry it didn't work out for you.. back to the drawing (thrifting?) board I guess. Do you enjoy thrift shopping?
I totally adore maxi skirts and the second one blew me away!!! The colour is amazing:) Have a lovely day, sweetie

I Love that Green maxi, just beautiful...Just found your blog....very cool
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason I adore your blog. There isn't a post that isn't stunning! I love what you pull out of that big jumble and make it treasure. The maxi is stunning, a beautiful green. Actually, it reminds me of the dinner party gown in Atonement.
ReplyDeleteKeep it coming!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with not being an Olsen twin. If anything, I think that might be a good thing. I can't pull of those skirts either. I am shaped like a pear, and with these hips, I look like a wall of fabric walking towards you. Short shirts and tights will always be hip.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I've always loved long skirts! There was a time in my primary school days when I dressed in Victorian clothing as much as possible... Although, all taste aside, it is true they pose some logistical problems - I used to hike in them!
ReplyDeleteThat green skirt is such a beautiful pea green :) can you not try a high waisted long skirt? I tired one a few weeks ago because my legs are on the short side, and it works pretty well :) x
ReplyDeleteMaxi skirts are super cool! Love the color of that green one <333
